Enjoy a keto smoothie in a bowl with a range of toppings for a nutritious low carb breakfast.
A delicious combination of strawberries and avocado are blended with almond milk for a thick smoothie. I’ve added spirulina and hemp seed hearts to increase the nutritional content. I didn’t add any sweetener but you may want to add some to your own taste.
A keto smoothie bowl is thicker than a smoothie with less liquid, such as almond milk. Frozen fruit can add to the thickness too. Served in a bowl and decorated this is a great egg free breakfast.
What is spirulina?
Spirulina is a blue green algae, known as a superfood and is a great source of vegan protein. It has all the complete amino acids and can also help to boost the immune system. Available in powdered or tablet form, I prefer the powdered form as it’s easier to add to a smoothie bowl.
Smoothie bowl topping suggestions
An enjoyable part of the smoothie bowl is to decorate it like a work of art! As well as giving the dish extra flavour and texture, it can be a fun way to start the day. A few topping suggestions are:
- Sliced strawberries
- Toasted coconut
- Cacao nibs
- Berries
- Chia seeds
- Chopped nuts
- Hemp hearts
