An easy keto buffalo sauce is fast and easy sauce made in minutes and can be used in many ways. Low in carb, gluten free and effortless to make.

This is a great keto vegetarian sauce to have to hand. Use over vegetables, as a dip or a condiment. It can bring the dullest vegetable to live with just 1g net carb a serving. Try it with our Buffalo cauliflower bites recipe.

    What is Buffalo Sauce?

Buffalo sauce originates from New York and is a simple sauce made from a bottled cayenne pepper sauce and butter. It's that easy and utterly delicious. Frank's hot sauce is the main brand used for Buffalo sauce. It has the right amount of heat and no added sugars making it a great low carb ingredient.

A low carb hot sauce made from cayenne pepper has a great balance of heat without burning off your tongue.  Caribbean hot sauce can destroy your tastebuds as it's made with a hotter pepper and is definitely an acquired taste. We use our hot sauce in a lot small volume than Buffalo sauce!

    Is Buffalo sauce keto friendly?

Although you can purchase Buffalo sauces in stores they will often have added sugars and additives. As with most sauces, you are better off making your own as you know what goes into it.

With a homemade low carb buffalo sauce you ensure that it's keto. It's doesn't long to make too.

How to make keto buffalo sauce with Frank's sauce

First you need a good hot sauce such as the Frank's brand. When I first wanted to make this sauce I was going crazy trying to find this brand on the island as the hot sauce here is too hot to make a buffalo sauce. Just as I was resolved that I'd have to make an expensive shipping cost of bringing jars in, I discovered larges jars in a small store. My pantry is now locked and loaded with Frank's sauce for the next year!

Just 4 ingredients are used to make this sauce. The hot sauce, butter, salt and garlic powder. Heated together until the butter melts, this might be the easiest low carb sauce you can make!

    Storing and reheating

Due to the butter content, this sauce needs to be stored in the refrigerator. We store ours in a glass jar, once it has cooled down. You will find that the sauce will thicken once kept in the refrigerator.

The sauce should last up to 1 month in the refrigerator.

Reheat the sauce in a saucepan on a medium heat. Don't boil the sauce but gently heat it.

Can you make this keto vegan?

To make this sauce vegan, simply swap the butter with a vegan butter. The texture of the sauce may not be as rich depending upon the ingredients of the vegan butter, but you will still have a great flavoured sauce.

    Recipe Tips

If you can't find Frank's hot sauce, look for a hot sauce made with cayenne pepper and no sugar.

Use a good quality butter as it has less water in it and will yield a creamier sauce.

Add other spices to the sauce to make it hotter or even use fresh garlic for a stronger garlic flavour.
