    Keto French Onion Dip

    Gluten FreeNut FreeEgg FreeLow CarbVegetarianKeto

Once you make homemade keto French onion dip you will never reach for a packet of onion soup mix again! Caramelized onions in a creamy cheesy dip makes a great dip to serve with vegetables and keto crackers.

The key to this tasty French onion dip recipe is that the onions are caramelized, giving them a great flavour. It is worth the time to cook them slowly for the taste that they release.

Opening a packet of onion soup mix may be quicker, but it may contain additives and simply cannot beat the flavour of homemade onion dip.

Is store bought French onion dip keto?

Even if the store bought onion dip has low carbohydrates listed, check all of the ingredients. A cream cheese dip is made with fresh ingredients and you may find hidden additives in a store bought dip to keep the shelf life longer.

When you make your own food, you know exactly what goes into it. Plus taste testing as you make it is always a bonus.

How to make keto French onion dip

For the onions, use white, yellow or brown. Or even a mix of them. The onion needs to be finely chopped to caramelize quicker and easier for dipping.

We add garlic for an extra flavour but this can be either omitted or replaced with garlic powder.

This simple low carb dip is as easy as cooking the onions, mix the cream cheese, sour cream and mayonnaise together. Then combine. That's it!

How to store the low carb French onion dip

Keep this onion dip in a sealed container in the refrigerator and it should last 4 to 5 days.

We do not recommend freezing this dip.

What to serve with this homemade French onion dip

We could eat this directly out of the bowl with a serving spoon but that's not a pretty sight! This onion dip goes great with vegetable crudites. Try low carb vegetables such as celery and cucumber sticks, raw cauliflower and broccoli florets and raw radishes. Crunchy crackers compliment the creaminess of the dip too. Try our chia hemp flexseed crackers or sour cream chive crackers for dipping.

    Recipe Tips

If the onions start to dry out when cooking, add additional butter but just enough for the onions to cook in. You don't want the mixture too buttery.

Serve with freshly chopped chives on top.

The mayonnaise or sour cream could be swapped with plain Greek yogurt if you are out of either ingredients.
